Annual General Meeting and this years charity The Silver Line
On 6th March 2018 we held our AGM. A chance to update members on all things financial and we were all provided with copies of the minutes from last years meeting.
At the end of this meeting our Chairperson Pat Wood announced that she would be standing down from this position after 11 years in the role. The whole club wish to give a big thanks to Pat for all her many efforts and work, much of which is probably unseen, but has ensured that the club runs smoothly. Pat will be missed but happily will still be a member of the Gardening Club.
We then had a presentation for The Silver Line Charity given by David LeButt and Derrick Swallow. This is the charity we will be supporting for this year. The Silver Line was started only a few years ago by Esther Rantzen and recruits Community Engagement Volunteers who telephone a lonely elderly person each week for about 30 minutes. They also have specialist teams for those needing extra support. The volunteer and elderly person seeking a friendly voice are matched according to hobbies and interests so they have a common thread. The call can also be used to add support and help to ensure the person is safe.
David LeButt (Left) and Derrick Swallow (Right) gave an excellent presentation explaining the benefits The Silver Line provides helping to alleviate loneliness that many elderly people suffer, especially after the loss of a Partner. We were shown several very moving videos and how The Silver Line can help significantly by always being there. Calls can be made by a client at any time 24 hours a day on every day of the year. Thank you to David and Derrick for coming along to talk to us about The Silver Line.
