Euphorbias and Other Spring Perennials by Don Witton

We were privileged to welcome Don Witton to our April meeting. Don holds a plant heritage national collection of hardy euphorbia. His garden has been featured on Gardeners World in 1999 and again in 2012, and it was also featured on the BBC’s Tatton Park TV show.

Don took us through a fascinating A to Z of these interesting and beautiful plants. His talk was accompanied by some superb photographs and helped to illustrate clearly what we could all achieve given a little knowledge on what to plant and where. Don went on to describe the types of foliage and various colours found within the many varieties, which grow from March to June.

To those who may well not have been aware we were advised to avoid getting any euphorbia sap on our hands whilst pruning as it is like acid and can produce very nasty blisters.

Thank you very much to Don for giving us a fun and very informative presentation.

After Don’s presentation we held our annual Daffodil and Spring bowl competition. Congratulations to the winners. Anne Brett won the Spring Bowl competition and Dave Baggott winner of the daffodil competition.
