Burbage Gardening Club and Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Burbage Gardening Club and Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Further to Government advice and the Prime Minister’s statement on national television on Monday 23rd March 2020 please be advised of the following:

Social and Committee meetings:

April, May and June social meetings are cancelled. The plant auction in May will not therefore take place. General and Show Committee meetings are also cancelled.

Coach Trips:

The trips to Elton Hall and Gardens and Ashwood Nursery and John’s Garden have both been cancelled. We will take a view on the trip to RHS Bridgewater scheduled for September later in the year.

Annual Show:

We are continuing with the planning and preparation at this stage. We will make a decision at the end of May which is when the major, non recoverable expenditure for the schedule and raffle ticket printing will have to be made. It is also dependant on the school closure and judges willingness to attend amongst other things.

Trading Store:

The Trading Store is now closed and based on Government rules for non essential trading we are not able to offer any kind of service as we had hoped to do. Please ignore the notice on the Trading Store door which will be removed shortly.

BPC Hanging Baskets:

Linda Barratt Chairperson has today spoken on the telephone with Rachel Parrish, Project Officer of Burbage Parish Council. Rachel said that at this moment in time with the current government advice Burbage Parish Council do not feel they are able to continue with the baskets for May. They do not know that they will have the staff at their end to facilitate the work required & they do not feel able to ask the garden club to ask our members to plant them. Should the situation change they are more than ready to give the go ahead if we are able to oblige at short notice.

Rachel went on to pass her apologies on to Burbage Gardening Club Committee and members who she said “always do us proud”.

The newsletter has been printed and was ready for distribution. We are looking to publish this on the website although some of the content is now irrelevant. The paper copies will be distributed at some point. If you know any members who do not have internet access please will you update them on the situation with meetings/trips/trading.

With our very best wishes to everyone and keep yourselves safe.
