Plant Auction
This years plant auction was held on 4th July and members arrived with a supply of home grown plants to sell off. The total proceeds of which are going to this years selected charity for Huntington’s disease.
Lindsey, and Alarna (ward Matron) came to explain the “Miles For Smiles Appeal.”
The charity aim to exceed what the NHS can supply for patients, they are trying to maintain the use of a special vehicle. This car will enable people in larger wheel chairs to get out and about as a normal wheel chair vehicle will only take a standard chair. Many patients have the larger chairs and without the use of this vehicle would not be able to visit the pub, cinema, the shops, or have a meal out. The disease is terminal so outings are essential to help with quality of life and to help the person to feel as normal as possible. Lindsey and Alarna gave very touching accounts of how this special car, which looks very normal has enhanced lives for patients and their families. It is vital to keep this invaluable vehicle going as it makes such a positive contribution to patients and their families who suffer this terrible disease.
Nick Harrop was Auctioneer and used his selling skills to find a home for the majority of plants, including what was termed a “sausage” plant, even if no one was too sure what it really was! Most of us went home with more than we brought along.
A enjoyable evening and pleased to report the auction raised a minimum of £253.00 with a further £66.00 from the Gardening Club shed store. A very worthy cause indeed, and hopefully this will help to acheive the charities aim.
