Burbage Gardening Club 74th Open Show 2022
Burbage Gardening Club 74th Open Show 2022
After a 2 year break Saturday 20th August saw the Burbage Gardening Club 74th Open Show. Despite the summer weather, that proved to be quite challenging, plenty of vegetables, pot plants, cut flowers, and flower arrangements were presented in a wide variety classes. The classes for children, home crafts, art, handicrafts and photography were also very well supported. The whole event was a glorious celebration of the horticultural and creative skills of the people of Burbage and surrounding areas.
There were 101 classes and over 40 cups awarded. It was a truly family event with many classes for children, art, craft and baking too. The Club’s thanks go to John McGowan who presented the prizes at the end of the show with humour and cheer. John is a coach at Hinckley Town Tennis Club and a winner of the BBC East Midlands Sports Personality ‘Unsung Hero’ award.
The Heaviest Potato Crop competition, a crop grown from a single Picasso seed potato, was won by Tom Upton with an astounding 4.27kg. There was also a raffle with 37 prizes, thanks to a generous community. For this year’s chosen charity Martin Grant from Leicestershire and Rutland REMAP attended and collected £115 in the collection jar.
It was a wonderful community event and we are already looking forward to the next one!!
