Burbage Gardening Club 76th Annual Show – Update
The Burbage Gardening Club 76th Annual Show was held on Saturday 17th August 2024 at Hastings High School in Burbage. Despite the building work currently being carried out at the school the annual show went ahead as scheduled although with some changes to previous years, nevertheless exhibitors and visitors found their way round all the exhibits.
Exhibitors came from far and wide as well as the local area to exhibit their flowers and produce. Exhibitor numbers were up on the previous year with 99 exhibitors including 21 youngsters. The number of exhibits was also up on last year with 584 from the adults and 57 from the young exhibitors.
A new exhibitor, Mark Allard, from Derbyshire won the Dahlia Championship with 12 fantastic blooms of dahlias.
The 101 classes in the open show this year included Floral Art, Cut Flowers, Pot Plants, Vegetables, Young Exhibitors’ classes, Homecrafts, Photographic and Handicraft and Art. All sections of the show were well supported, and the judges commented on the high quality of exhibits throughout the show.
Each year the show committee select a charity to benefit from fundraising efforts. This year Leicestershire and Rutland Blood Bikes www.lrbloodbikes.org.uk were the chosen charity and attended the show to collect donations in lieu of an entrance charge. They brought along one of the motorbikes used for their voluntary out of hours services to the NHS and air ambulance as well as promotional materials. LRBB collected just over £400 from visitors to the show, and this will be topped up from other donations and club funds with a presentation being made to them later this year. Volunteers from LRBB also presented over 40 cups, trophies and medals to the winners of the various sections and individual classes in the show.
Burbage Gardening Club sincerely thanks all of the sponsors, advertisers and donors of raffle prizes as well as the exhibitors and visiting public for their generous support of our annual show.
We look forward to our next annual show which will be held on Saturday 16th August 2025, Hastings High School has already been booked and the show schedules will be available from July 2025.
