SHOWS AND SHOWING. EXHIBITING AND PRESENTATION

In July 2022 Burbage Gardening Club welcomed Chris Small to our meeting to give information and advice for those wishing to enter the different categories at the annual show. Chris has been involved in shows for over 30 years as an exhibitor, an organizer, and a judge. He goes to quite a lot of shows through the year and is passionate about small village shows continuing to do what they do as they are part of the cycle that leads to the bigger shows, including Chelsea.

Chris went through our programme identifying the key things that the judges will be looking for and giving tips for success. The key words to always remember are freshness, uniformity, and clean. Judges take a variety of things into consideration, and it must be remembered that biggest isn’t always best. Some advice for the future: some varieties are better than others for shows, and don’t try too much.
